Description

It was at the WWDC 20 conference that Apple came up with a new way to add widgets to your apps. WidgetKit is the name of this new tool. In iOS 15 and SwiftUI 3, there was a lot more power added to the framework. Using the app widget, you can show people what they need to know about your app right when they open their phone or tablet. When you take this class, you will learn all about widgets and what they can do.

We’ll make a lot of different kinds of widgets in this class, and we’ll learn about them as we build them from start to finish.

Join us on this journey and learn all about the iOS widget kit as we go along. In this class, you will learn how to make simple widgets into widgets that can be changed. In this lesson, you will build a real weather app widget that will download the weather information from an API and show it in small, medium, and large size widgets. You will also learn how the API works.

You’ll also work with Timelines and learn how to schedule widget updates to show dynamic content on app widgets, so you’ll be able to use them.

According to Apple widgetkit, this is how it works:

WidgetKit and SwiftUI’s new widget API make it easy to make widgets that work on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. A new widget gallery has been added to the Home screen. Users can search for widgets, preview sizes, and place them anywhere on the Home screen to quickly see important information at a glance. Add Smart Stacks, which are groups of widgets that use on-device intelligence to show the right one at the right time, based on things like time, location, and activity. They can also add Smart Stacks.
